School Makes Students Sing Singapore Anthem Over And Over Again

A student from Serangoon Gardens Secondary made a very sensible statement on STOMP today.

He said:

"Making us sing the national anthem over and over again will not make us any better, you are wasting our time.

"We have N' levels, O' levels -- you would rather us spend 10 to 15 minutes singing till we get it right?"

He says the students would rather move on to their first lesson instead of cutting out time from it.

He added:

"Personally, I hate singing in the morning, I only sang the national anthem once...the subsequent ones I ignored.

"Repeating the song won't make us love country more, it makes us 'hate' the national anthem more (not hate as in...yeah...I mean like, super annoyed? I mean come on! You like to be 'forced' to sing it three to four times in the morning?)"

Personally, i think that instilling a love and a sense of loyalty to our county is important but singing it over and over again??? This would only anger our young Singaporeans more.. Since when did Singing our national anthem become a form of punishment? How can our national anthem be used for this purpose by our schools?

Masked Gunmen Attack Riot Police In Athens

A Greek Marxist militant group named Revolutionary Struggle claimed responsibility for the recent attack on riot police officers on monday. At least two masked gunmen were claimed to have sprayed over 20 rounds of bullets at riot police.

Sadly, a 21-year-old officer was hit in the chest and the groin... no more father's day for this young man.. OUCH ! Anyway, 72 people were detained during the initial search for suspects. These attacks have been going on and off for about a month now...
